And so the Adventure Begins....with a Police Escort! Part THREE

After our previous run-ins with the seller, we decided to invest in a security system and Monday night Nick and a friend set up cameras with recording capabilities. We wanted to be prepared for whatever the seller had in store for us the next day, when she was scheduled to come back and get the rest of her items off of the property. Tuesday rolled around and she showed up three hours earlier than the set time, while I was bringing Alora to orchestra practice. Nick was home though and he had a deputy stop in and make sure she was behaving, and the deputy also told her that any of her property left at the end of the day would be brought to the road, and if the second car was still in the garage it would be towed away.

She started loading her car as I pulled in and Alora and I were verbally assaulted on the walk/dash to the door. After we got inside I saw that my new living room furniture from Talsmas had been delivered. Nick said the seller screamed and swore at the two delivery men as they were unloading. They laughed about it but I felt so bad and embarrassed that this was happening!

Then, it just so happened that we had pre-set the appointment for our new internet service to be hooked up that morning, so here comes the Charter technician pulling in oiy! We got him into the house (with more cursing being thrown our way from the driveway), and he got to work setting up our internet service. The seller left during this time with her first load and we all breathed a sigh of relief. The technician got us hooked up and after he left the Stanley Steamer representative pulled in, to give us our quote for air duct cleaning. That morning was nuts!

Throughout the day the seller came back numerous times to load up her car with things from the garage. I can't believe she got everything out by herself-one car load at a time. It was a bit sad that she did it all by herself, and not one neighbor walked over to offer to help or to talk to her, (she had lived there for over 18 years). It also made for a slow and frustrating day because when she was over loading up her car we had to pause whatever we were doing and watch to make sure she didn't do anything to our property.

By 9pm we could tell she was winding down. We started getting nervous though, because the second car was still here and then she turned off all the lights in the garage. We couldn't see what she was doing, except we did see her cut across the front yard a couple of times. We decided to call out a deputy, yet again, to make sure she wasn't up to any trouble.

Before they arrived she did start the second car and drove it off of our property. When the deputies arrived they had noticed that her other car was parked off the road a few houses down from us. She must not have had anyone to help her move the extra car, so she was getting the second car off the property so we wouldn't tow it. While we were talking to the deputies our realtor, Mike Haan from 5 Star Realty, called to get an update and after he heard that her stuff was out of the garage he headed over with a padlock to help us secure it. I'm sure this is the first time he's had to help a client like this!

By 10:30pm we had taken possession of our garage, yay! The deputies told us that at this point the seller was not allowed on the property any longer and if she showed up we were to call 911 and report a trespasser. Then we could get more serious and start pressing charges. A big thank you to the amazing group of deputies at the Ottawa County Sheriffs' department, for helping us through some very tense moments!

After our memorable day on Tuesday the rest of the week was fairly calm, as we worked on getting situated and starting to identify the many projects that needed to be done. We also made our first (of many) Lowes trips and dropped over $500-and so it begins! We also did a walk through of the garage and as expected it was a mess. We also noticed a couple windows had been broken and the garage door opener was nowhere to be found. On the bright side we did find the door handles to our fridge and freezer under a pile of trash! Nick's grandparents, Sid and Agnes, came by on Saturday morning and they cleaned up the entire mess in the garage. We're so blessed by all the help and support we've received from family and friends throughout this ordeal-thank you!

It's now been a week since we took possession of our new house and it's been relatively quiet. We've met several of our new neighbors and they're all very friendly. Rocky and June next door to us are cat people and we instantly connected (the cake they brought us also helped win us over!). We did have another, smaller, interaction with the seller on Monday. She texted Nick asking where her mail was. When he didn't respond right away, (because he was at work), she got irate and started going off again at us in the on-going group text. It was at this time that we decided we were done with this nonsense. After Nick responded that any of her mail still being delivered here was being dropped off at the post office, per the instructions of one of the deputy's that had helped us, he blocked her number. Good riddance! Her realtor also emailed her with instructions on how to forward her mail, and then also informed her that she was also blocking her number, due to the amount of profanity the seller was using in her interactions towards all of us. It's pretty pathetic when your own realtor blocks you!

While our move in experience wasn't what we had planned, and it was full of stressful and scary moments, this morning I walked out to my back yard and was greeted by this sight-

Moving forward and onto much better things!
