An Interlude.....

We've been in a bit of a lull with the house and have been focusing on other things these past few weeks. Nick's still helping his sister quite a bit at her new house, and then he's been working on job sites that have required a lot of driving, (Petoskey, Ludington etc). Plus the back to school craziness has hit, as well as fall activities. However, Nick did find time to buy something he's been wanting for years-an old project truck.

He found one that had been used as an advertising piece at an antique shop, that was going out of business, and he had a friend help him trailer it home from Battle Creek. It's a 1955 Ford F-600. What makes it unique is that it's an old Army vehicle and it has a lot of character under all the rust!

It had been sitting behind Nick's parents barn since we bought it, but we decided to get it home last night. What an adventure that was! We had no idea if it was drive-able for any length of time, so Nick called his friend, Chuck, and had him bring his Jeep and a tow strap. Nick led the way, with the Jeep following behind, acting as brakes. Yes, the truck has no brakes. Or rear lights. Or a working exhaust system. This was probably not one of our brightest ideas!

We got her hooked up and off he went, with me taking up the rear in our van with flashers on. We hit a top speed of 30mph and we were doing good, until the radiator hose blew on Linden Dr. We pulled over and had Chuck take the lead with his Jeep and he towed her the rest of the way home. Overall it was a smooth ride and it's now parked in the yard, (uh oh, we're becoming those people).

Nick's already started doing some work on it, and after a $24.95 muffler and new spark plugs, it's running remarkably well for a truck that's been sitting for years! The next project will be to modify our garage, so it will fit inside.

You'll never hear us complaining about not having anything to do around here!
